| Date | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 31/12/2025 | A relatively quiet day but David O'Meara's Duke's Command did get his first bit of black type when third in the Quebec Stakes L at Lingfield. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 27/12/2025 | Wales might have won the Welsh Grand National but Joel Parkinson & Sue Smith's (who else?!) O'Connell put up a grand performance at Chepstow to be three lengths second. Ed Bethell had a rare hurdles winner at Wetherby with further local winners supplied by Mark Walford and Adrian Keatley whilst Ruth Carr had a winner at Wolverhampton. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 26/12/2025 | A relatively good Boxing Day for Yorkshire ! At Aintree Patrick Neville's largely unheralded The Last Cloud was third in the Formby Novice's Hurdle Gd1 and Joel Parkinson & Sue Smith's Prairie Wolf kept on well to land the £22,338 Wm Hill Racing Bet Builder Handicap Chase. Arguably the best performance of the day came from, yet again, Joel Parkinson & Sue Smith with Konfusion running out a convincing seven length winner of the £29,363 Rowland Meyrick Handicap Chase at Wetherby, despite making a mess of the last, Mick & David Easterby landed the closing Handicap Hurdle. Fiona Needham and Tim Easterby took the last two at Market Rasen whilst Mark Walford had a winner at Sedgefield. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 20/12/2025 | Joel Parkinson & Sue Smith strike again ; this time with Grand Geste running out an easy winner of the £26,015 Tommy Whittle Handicap Chase at Haydock, where Sam England had a double. Craig Lidster had an outright winner at Newcastle as well as a dead heat with Roger Fell whilst Adrian Keatley, Ruth Carr and Ben Haslam also struck. Richard Fahey landed the opener at Wolverhampton. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 19/12/2025 | Mark Walford's Push The Button put up a decent performance to finish second in the Howden Noel Novices' Chase Gd2 at Ascot this afternoon, albeit some nine lengths behind the winner. In Bahrain Kevin Ryan's Hi Royal was also second, he in the £38,400 Al Muharraq Cup. Sara Ender had a winner at Southwell whilst David O'Meara, Nigel Tinkler, Richard Fahey, Paul Midgley and Ruth Carr all scored at Newcastle. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 13/12/2025 | An excellent run from Ruth Jefferson's Lavida Adiva sees her land the Doncaster Mares' Hurdle L by a comfortable 3 3/4 lengths, her second listed victory of the year. Joel Parkinson and Sue Smith also scored at Donnie whilst David O'Meara had a winner at Wolverhampton. Newcastle saw winners for Antony Brittain, Paul Midgley and Philip Kirby although the most impressive performance came from Ed Bethell's debutante Noelan Star, who positively galloped away with the two year old novice, winning by 8 1/2 lengths. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 06/12/2025 | The Joel Parkinson & Sue Smith bandwagon continues with their O'Connell landing the £26,164 London National Handicap Chase at Sandown this afternoon. Sam England provided the sole local winner at Wetherby whilst Philip Kirby took the last on Wolverhampton's evening card. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 01/12/2025 | Karl Burke's money-spinning Holloway Boy notched up another win today when hanging on by a neck to land the Hyde Stakes L at Kempton. Ed Bethell, David O'Meara and Ruth Carr each had a winner at Wolverhampton. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 29/11/2025 | Newcastle's big jumping day sees Constitution Hill tumble in the Fighting Fifth, but the Joel Parkinson & Sue Smith trained Konfusion put up a career best performance to land the £39,865 Rehearsal Handicap Chase. The same training partnership also had a nice result at Newbury with Prairie Wolf running third in the £26,015 Sir Peter O'Sullevan Memorial Handicap Chase. Philip Kirby took the last at Bangor-on-Dee. In the sales ring at Tatts West Moor Stud consigned the highest price lot on the final day of the December Foal Sale with a Havana Grey colt (owned by Simon Chappell) fetching 170,000gns. Earlier in the week the Branton Court bred (Hazelwood Bloodstock consigned) colt by Frankel out of Katies Diamond topped the December Yearling Sales fetching 425,000gns. It has also been announced that Norton Grove Stud will be standing Prix Eclipse G3 winner Electroltye (who was also placed second in the Coventry Stakes G2) in 2025, whilst Economics, bred at Copgrove Hall Stud, has been retired to stud in India. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 15/11/2025 | Following up on their double yesterday Joel Parkinson & Sue Smith proceeded to rack up a treble at Wetherby this afternoon ! Sam England also had a winner. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 14/11/2025 | A week of no domestic flat racing, but that's not going to stop Karl Burke with Royal Champion running out a cosy winner of the £480,000 Bahrain International Trophy G2, this technically makes him a millionaire, but not on his 'Yorkshire only' winnings ! Mark Walford had a winner at Southwell, at Newcastle there was a Joel Parkinson & Sue Smith double with Ruth Jefferson and Philip Kirby also having winners. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 09/11/2025 | Kevin Ryan's Love Dynasty was a decent third in the Prix Isola Bella L at Saint-Cloud this afternoon. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 08/11/2025 | Karl Burke's Spycatcher continued his good run of form when landing the Wentworth Stakes L at the 'final' Donnie meeting, Kevin Ryan's Magic Basma garnered more black type for her C.V. in finishing third. There was a Yorkshire 1-2-3 in the £23,193 Virgin Bet Daily Price Boosts Handicap Richard Fahey's Golden Mind winning at 33-1 ahead of John&Sean Quinn's Eye Of Dubai and Ruth Carr's Rousing Encore, sadly no similar domination in the November Handicap. Brian Ellison took the opener and Karl Burke the maiden, with Mick & David Easterby taking the £11,514 Nursery. Charlie Johnston and David O'Meara had a winner apiece at Wolverhampton. It has been announced that Ann Duffield is to retire from training and that Stephen Hanlon (ex Willie Mullins and Ralph Beckett) will be taking over the training end of Sun Hill Farm. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 01/11/2025 | Amiloc (bred by the Aykroyd's from a boarder at Copgrove Hall Stud) was a perfectly respectable fourth in the Breeders' Cup Turf at Del Mar, picking up £200,000 for his efforts. Earlier at Newmarket Karl Burke's Liberty Lane had taken the James Seymour Stakes L fairly easily, Roger Fell took the last race on the card. No joy in the big races at Wetherby, although Sam England and Joel Parkinson & Sue Smith took the last two races, Mark Walford landed the last at Ayr. On the all-weather Jedd O'Keeffe, Brian Ellison, Alan Brown, Liam Bailey and Grant Tuer all had winners at Newcastle. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 31/10/2025 | Spicy Marg, Newmarket trained, but bred (and sold) by Branton Court Stud ran out a comfortable winner of the Bosra Sham Fillies' Stakes L at Newmarket today. Wetherby saw winners for Micky Hammond and Mark Walford and Prairie Wolf, trained by Joel Parkinson & Sue Smith was third in the £24,203 Bet Boost At bet365 Premier Handicap Chase. Some Breeders' Cup this evening but our main ... only ... interest, however unlikely, is tomorrow when Amiloc runs in the Turf. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 29/10/2025 | Yet another black type winner for Karl Burke today when Ice Max comfortably landed the Robin Hood Stakes L at Nottingham, with David O'Meara's Cerulean Bay back in third. No joy anywhere else ! | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 27/10/2025 | The unstoppable Karl Burke landed a Group Three double at Chantilly this afternoon with Half Sovereign taking the Prix Miesque G3 and Spycatcher the Prix de Seine-et-Oise G3, at two and seven respectively both ends of the age scale were represented ! Burke also had a winner at equally glamourous Redcar where Roger Fell, David O'Meara and Ed Bethell also had winners. 'Jumps' trainer Sam England had a flat double on Newcastle's evening card, with Ruth Carr also having a winner. It was announced that Kevin Ryan's Group One winning Inisherin has been retired to stud. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 26/10/2025 | No winners today, but David O'Meara's Ashtown Lad and Patrick Neville's Moonbow both ran well to finish runner-up in their respective supporting races at Aintree. At Saint-Cloud Ed Bethell's Elim was fourth, only a nose out of third, in the Prix Perth G3 and is now close to the £100k mark for total winnings. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 25/10/2025 | The last domestic Group One of the season sees Adrian Keatley's Rochfortbridge finishes fourth (12 lengths behind the third!) in the Futurity Trophy G1 at Donnie. Earlier the very local Jessica Macey landed the £25,770 Skill Step Group Handicap by a neck with Smart Vision from Nigel Tinkler's Duran with Julie Camacho's Solar Aclaim a length further back in third. Later on the card Karl Burke's Lam Yai secured the Doncaster Stakes L and Richard Fahey's Have Secret was second in the £23,53 Wm Hill Best Odds Guaranteed Handicap, there were winners for Mick & David Easterby and Brian Ellison. Proceedings also went well at Newbury with Karl Burke's Leading Dancer taking the Radley Stakes L from Ed Bethell's Caim and Richard Fahey's Arabian Desert, still a maiden, running a decent second in the Horris Hill Stakes G3. Micky Hammond had a winner at Kelso whilst Ruth Carr took the last on Wolverhampton's evening card after a stewards' inquiry. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 24/10/2025 | Brian Ellison's Onesmoothoperator, now seven, today secured his participation in the Melbourne Cup G1 for the second year in a row when cosily landing the Moonee Valley Gold Cup G2 at, erm, Moonee Valley, a slightly different route to that which he took last year (winning the Geelong Cup G3). Fingers crossed ! At Cheltenham Patrick Neville's The Last Cloud ran well to be a close up fourth, despite being hampered in the closing stages, in the Oddschecker Novices' Hurdle G2 ; his first effort at this grade. Karl Burke's Golden Story won the £21,600 maiden at Doncaster on her racecourse debut, a half sister to two black type performers this looks a promising filly. David O'Meara had a winner later on the card. Southwell's evening meeting yielded winners for Declan Carroll and John & Sean Quinn. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 20/10/2025 | A local 1-2-3 in the EBF Silver Tankard Stakes L at Pontefract today with Karl Burke's Shayem the comfortable winner, but valuable black type for Adrian Keatley's Rochfortbridge and Tim Easterby's Daydreama in second and third respectively. Grant Tuer's Sophia's Starlight took the £15,462 EBF Filles' Handicap and there were also winners for Craig Lidster and Ruth Carr ... not to mention a double for Karl Burke .... who also landed the Criterium de Vitesse L at Deauville with Pearl Fortune. Evening racing at Wolverhampton saw winners for Richard Fahey, Ed Bethell and David O'Meara. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 19/10/2025 | The Chester Vase was arguably the prep race of the year and today Karl Burke's Convergent further stamped that form when landing the Prix du Conseil de Paris G2 at Longchamp by the shortest of short necks. The seasons (and weather!) are turning and so no surprise to see Adrian Keatley's ultra-versatile Kihavah run third in the CopyBet Hurdle L at Kempton. In a similar vein there were winners at Sedgefield for Patrick Neville and Sam England. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 18/10/2025 | Champions Day at Ascot starts with Karl Burke's Al Qareem finishing third (albeit someway behind) in the Champions Long Distance Cup G1. Stablemate Super Soldier was fourth in the new £128,850 'British Champions Day Two Year Old Conditions Stakes (it's almost like they haven't heard of Future Champions Day!). Based on the odds at least then the surprise of the season arguably came in the British Champions Sprint Stakes G1 which fell to Richard Fahey's Powerful Glory who prevailed by a neck at 200-1 ; a new record for the longest priced winner of a British Group One ! That said this was no flash in the pan as he won the Mill Reef Stakes G2 last year, but had wind surgery after his 2025 debut and was then off for 122 days before returning to Beverley (finished last) last month. David O'Meara's Estrange , rerouted here from the Arc, was a decent second in the British Champions Fillies & Mares G1 , not bad at all considering really she needs some cut in the ground and it was officially Good, although actually looked a little drier than that. Fallen Angel flopped in the QEII and Economics did likewise in the Champion Stakes; having been off the track for exactly a year, and reportedly bled again. Karl Burke's Holloway Boy was a neck second in the Balmoral Stakes, picking up £36,260 for connections. Earlier Catterick had seen a Tim Easterby double, and a Geoff Harker winner, Charlie Johnston took the last on Wolverhampton's evening card. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 11/10/2025 | Pride of place today goes to Karl Burke's Hankelow, who nicely landed the Autumn Stakes G3 at Newmarket, stablemate Liberty Lane having earlier finished fourth in the Darley Stakes G3. At York Richard Fahey's Boston Dan was a good second in the Rockingham Stakes L, and Karl Burke's Korker was third in the £51,540 Coral Sprint Trophy, but no local winners. Peter Atkinson had a winner at Hexham and Seb Spencer likewise on the Wolverhampton evening card. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 10/10/2025 | Quite a good day at Newmarket for the Yorkshire raiders, or some of them anyway. First up Karl Burke's Poet Master ran well to be second in the Challenge Stakes G2. In the day's feature, the Fillies' Mile G1, Charlie Johnston's Venetian Lace (40-1!) ran prominently early on and was leading most of the way before being (substantially!) eclipsed by Precise but stayed on well for second, with Karl Burke's Evolutionist finishing in third , both fillies could be 'anything' next season. In the last Karl Burke's Karmology (homebred by David & Yvonne Blunt), who had been black type placed in six of her seven prior runs this year without winning, finally came home in front to land the Pride Stakes G3 ; her first stakes win. At York Karl Burke's Ice Max landed the £25,770 Autumn Mile Handicap, with Tony Coyle & Kaine Wood's Thunder Roar in second, Tim Easterby's Daydreama was well placed to finish third at 50-1 in the British EBF £100,000 Final and Easterby and Jedd O'Keeffe both had decent undercard winners. Charlie Johnston had an evening winner at Kempton. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 05/10/2025 | No joy for Yorkshire trained horses on Arc day, with the best finisher being Karl Burke's Aylin, fifth in the Prix Marcel Boussac G1. However Maranoa Charlie owned (but not bred) by, effectively, Yapham Mill, nicely lands the Prix de la Foret G1 and looks destined for a stallion career, especially after the premature death of his own sire Wootton Bassett who was trained by Richard Fahey. David O'Meara did have an Arc day winner in the end .... over fences at Kelso , whilst Sam England took the last at Uttoxeter. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 04/10/2025 | It's time again for the totally mad 'day before the
Arc' where there is seemingly a black type race or big
handicap at every turn. It did however turn into a bit of
a red-letter day for Karl Burke and
also, to a lesser degree, for Branton Court Stud .
Newmarket started with ..... actually it started with
Economics (bred at Copgrove Hall
Stud), the missing star of the year thus far, having
a race course gallop which seemingly went well. Proper
racing saw Charlie Johnston's Blessed
Star finishing third in the £25,770 Britih EBF Premier
Fillies' Handicap; she has now garnered just under £50k
of prize money ... without ever winning, nine starts and
she has been second or third in all of them ! Next up was
the £150,000 Tattersalls October Auction Stakes where Karl
Burke's epic day kicked off with Half Sovereign
finishing second, picking up £39,505. The main race of
the day however was the Sun Chariot Stakes G1 and
here Burke's Fallen Angel (bred by and
initially owned by Branton
Court Stud) chalked up her fifth Group One victory,
and her third in a row this season, when easily running
out the winner. She could well go for the QEII next but,
regardless, today's result means she has become a
millionaire, so we can display the 'Yorkshire
Millionaire's List' for the first time this year, albeit
the Racing Post and I disagree on her total earnings (I'm
going with their figure). Ascot started in a similar
manner to Newmarket with Karl Burke's Bright
Thunder finishing third in the October Stakes L (in
which Kevin Ryan's new recruit Love
Dynasty was fourth, she is , effectively, owned by Branton Court Stud,
albeit not a homebred). Karl Burke's Beautiful
Diamond was a neck second in the Rous Stakes L,
with Paul Midgely's Elegant Erin fourth.
Next up (Yorkshire wise) stable stalwart and the epitome
of 'tough' Al Qareem ground out a six length victory in
the Cumberland Lodge Stakes G3 for Karl
Burke and then stablemate Native Warrior (also
bred but sold by Branton
Court Stud ) landed the £92,772 BetMGM Challenge Cup
Heritage Handicap, with Kevin Ryan's Apiarist
in third, Ryan's Venture Capital also
ran well to finish a short head third in the five furlong
handicap later on the card. On to (semi) local erm, turf,
at Redcar where Tim Easterby's tough
Argentine Tango, having her eleventh run of the season,
was third in the Wm Hill Two Year Old Trophy L before
Ed Bethell's Elim, off the course for
364 days, nicely landed the Guisborough Stakes L
in which Kevin Ryan's Volterra was
third. Sam England's Jez Bomb and Tim
Easterby's Double Parked were second and third
respectively in the £20,616 Straight-Mile Series Final
Handicap and Tim Easterby landed an
under-card double. The Yorkshire runners didn't fare well
at Longchamp and the wheels have unfortunately fallen off
David O'Meara's Arc bid, with Estrange
scoping badly during the week, and withdrawn. Evening
racing saw winners for Charlie Johnston and
Joel Parkinson & Sue Smith at
Newcastle and for Tom Tate (his fist
winner of the year) and David O'Meara at
Wolverhampton.

||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 01/10/2025 | He will be hoping for bigger French results at the end of the week but October kicked off well for David O'Meara when the progressive Ryka landed the Prix Panacee L at Toulouse this afternoon. After winning on debut last year she was obviously highly though of as tried in group company on her next start, only to trail in last. She has gradually progressed since then and was a decent second in a big handicap at the Leger meeting 'the last time'. O'Meara also had a winner at Musselburgh, as did David & Nicola Barron and John & Sean Quinn whilst Karl Burke, Tim Easterby and Geoff Harker all scored at Catterick. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 28/09/2025 | Two good results, one of them a little tangential, at The Curragh today. Tim Easterby's Art Power took his first win of the season (and the fifth of his career at The Curragh) when putting up a strong performance to land the Renaissance Stakes G3 by a neck, his third win in this particular race, at the age of eight. Earlier the Paddy Twomey trained Black Caviar Gold ran on well to take the Weld Park Stakes G3. This Havana Grey filly, whilst not being a homebred, is one of a number of horses purchased by Bond Thoroughbreds Limited (effectively Yapham Mill ) and sent to Twomey with the stated aim of, eventually, upgrading the broodmare band. The Bond/Twomey combo have had five winners of seven races from eight runners (in Ireland) so far this year, but, thus far, Black Caviar Gold appears to be the best of them. Karl Burke had a winner at Epsom whilst Tim Easterby had a double at Newcastle where Brian Ellison and Karl Burke also scored. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 27/09/2025 | Cambridgeshire day at Newmarket and Karl Burke's top-weighted Boiling Point held on by a nose to land the spoils in the £90,195 namesake race. At Ripon local runners occupied the first three ( ... actually the first eleven ! ....) places in the £25,770 with John & Sean Quinn's Eye Of Dubai coming home a neck in front of Kevin Ryan's Aleezdancer, with Tim Easterby's Mister Sox third. David O'Meara landed a double in the last two races and there were also winners for Tim Easterby, Gemma Tutty and Ian McInnes. Ed Bethell and Brian Ellison had a winner apiece at Southwell. Over sticks Sam England's Saligo Bay landed the £21,2124 Docks Beers Lincoln Handicap Hurdle at Market Rasen ... 'only' his 17th run (5th win) of the year , both codes ! | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 26/09/2025 | Yet another good day for Yokshire (well, Middleham!), this time at Newmarket. First up Charlie Johnston's Francophone bounced back to form to comfortably land the Rosemary Stakes L , her first win since landing a listed event at Goodwood last May, furthermore better fancied stable mate Arisaig was third. Next up Karl Burke's Karmology (homebred by David & Yvonne Blunt) was only beaten a neck when second in the Princess Royal Stakes G3. The performance of the day however belonged to Karl Burke's Zeus Olympios who retained his unbeaten record when running out a convincing winner of the Joel Stakes G2, big plans for next term are being considered. Ed Bethell, Karl Burke, Nigel Tinkler and Tony Coyle & Kaine Wood all had winners are Newcastle. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 24/09/2025 | An excellent day at Goodwood for the Tyke raiders. First up David O'Meara's Cerulean Bay lands the £13,085 Heineken Handicap, his first win for over a year, which has nevertheless seen some nice placings in the interim. Similarly Julie Camacho's Naqeeb landed his first race for the team since his transfer from Haggas/Shadwell but this neck victory in the Foundation Stakes L again is a fitting reward for some decent placings this term. Charlie Johnston's Timeforshowcasing, droppped in class, justified favouritisim when nicely taking the British EBF £100,000 2yo Fillies' Series Final, worth £50,960 to the winner. Camacho landed a double when Noble Consort (bred by Branton Court Stud , who also had a nice touch at Goffs today with a Mehmas filly) won a race on the undercard. In the news Patrick Neville had a winner at Perth whilst Roger Fell (a double), Nigel Tinkler and Simon Whitaker all had winners at Redcar, the later with the Hellwood Stud bred Miss Willows. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 21/09/2025 | A good day at Southwell with Yorkshire runners annexing the first four places in the £39,255 attheraces.com/marketmovers Handicap ; Ed Bethell's Azure Angel coming home in front with Richard Fahey's Vintage Clarets, Kevin Ryan's Against The Wind and Ed Bethell's Fluorescence occupying the minor places. There were also winners for David & Nicola Barron and Tim Easterby. Hamilton meanwhile yielded wins for David O'Meara, Karl Burke, Tim Easterby and Kevin Ryan. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 20/09/2025 | Ayr Gold Cup day starts well for Yorkshire with Tony Coyle & Kaine Wood's Thunder Roar picking up another good win when landing the £23,193 Ladbrokes 'Free Bet At Ayr' Handicap. In the next Karl Burke's Liberty Lane is third in the Doonside Cup L whilst Mick & David Easterby's Sondad is second in the £33,501 Ayr Silver Cup, with John & Sean Quinn's Eye Of Dubai in third. It's a Yorkshire clean sweep in the Firth of Clyde Stakes G3 with Richard Fahey's Catching The Moon a neck in front of Karl Burke's Lam Yai and Kevin Ryan's Isle of Fernandez back in third. In the £92,772 Ayr Gold Cup itself Julie Camacho's Desert Falcon put up another strong performance to be a a neck second. Grant Tuer has a double at Chester and Craig Lidster takes the last at Newmarket, whilst John & Sean Quinn do likewise at Wolverhampton. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 19/09/2025 | Second Day of the Gold Cup / Western Isles meeting at Ayr and the quality of racing goes up a notch from day one and, better still, Yorkshire win all three main races with Adrian Keatley's Chairmanfourtimes landing the Harry Rosebery Stakes L (with Craig Lidster's Arduis Invicata in third) , Karl Burke's Beautiful Diamond the Arran Scottish Sprint EBF Fillies' Stakes L and Julie Camacho's Winged Messenger the £18,039 Ayr Bronze Cup. Karl Burke also had an undercard winner. At Newbury Kevin Ryan's Volterra was only beaten a head when second in the Dubai Duty Free Cup Stakes L. Ollie Pears has a double and Brian Ellison, Tim Easterby, Joel Parkinson & Sue Smith and Bryan Smart all have winners on Newcastle's evening card. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 14/09/2025 | Donnie, bizarrely, continues but again the main 'Yorkshire' action actually occurs in Ireland, with Champions Weekend now having relocated to The Curragh for Day Two. Mark Walford's Kodiac Thriller is a head fourth in the e88,500 Bold Lad Sprint Premier Handicap, followed by Karl Burke's Alparslan landing the e135,500 Tattersalls Ireland Super Auction Sales Stakes. In the 'big ones' Burke's Venetian Sun is a decent third in the Moyglare Stud Stakes G1, David O'Meara's Nighteyes runs a blinder to be second in the Flying Five Stakes G1 and in the Irish St Leger G1 David & Vimy Aykroyd's Amiloc ('home' bred at Copgrove Hall Stud) is second (losing his unbeaten tag) with the Karl Burke trained Al Qareem third. There was some glory at Donnie with Julie Camacho's Desert Falcon landing the £36,078 Befred 'The Classic Bookmaker' Handicap, with the Geoff Oldroyd trained, Yapham Mill bred, Pocklington a short head back in second and David O'Meara's Akkadian Thunder third. Karl Burke's Bright Thunder went down by a short head when second in the Sceptre Stakes G3 and there are undercard winners for Liam Bailey and Paul Midgley. Musselburgh yields a Charlie Johnston double and winners singular for Richard Fahey, Mick & David Easterby, Tim Easterby and Ruth Carr. Finally at Longchamp Karl Burke's Poet Master is a decent second in the Prix du Pin G3. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 13/09/2025 | St Leger Day at Doncaster, but, with the abscence of Lazy Griff, there was no Yorkshire interest, indeed not much joy across the whole card. It was a different story at Irish Champions Weekend (Day 1) at Leopardstown with Branton Court Stud bred (but sold) Fallen Angel landing her fourth Group One for Karl Burke when running out the comfortable winner of the Matron Stakes G1. One more half decent result will push her into millionaire status. Not content with that however Burke also sent out Convergent to take the CMG Group Stakes G3 and Royal Champion was an 18-1 third in the Irish Champion Stakes G1. At Chester there are winners for Brian Ellison, Mark Walford and Sam England whilst Charlie Johnston and Craig Lidster have a winner apiece at Musselburgh. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 12/09/2025 | Another good day at Donnie and this time it's Tim Easterby leading the charge with Revival Power, last seen winning at York, a tidy winner of the Flying Childers Stakes G2 and looking every inch comparable to own brother, and stablemate, Winter Power. Kevin Ryan's reliable yardstick Dickensian was third, only a neck out of second. Earlier Karl Burke's Hankelow was a nose second in the Flying Scotsman Stakes L whilst David O'Meara's Ryka was a short head second in the £36,078 EBF Premier Fillies' Handicap. Brian Ellison, Karl Burke, Simon West and Tim Easterby had winners at Chester whilst Charlie Johnston scored at Salisbury. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 11/09/2025 | Post strike it's Day One of the St Leger meeting at Doncaster, and Karl Burke lands a feminine double with Aylin taking the May Hill Stakes G2 and stablemate Half Sovereign the £28,347 'Carrie Red' EBF Fillies' Nursery Handicap, in which Ed Bethell's Rogue Temptation is third. David O'Meara had a winner at Chelmsford and John & Sean Quinn likewise at Epsom. Evening racing at Newcastle sees winners for Paul Midgley, Bryan Smart, Geoff Oldroyd (the Yapham Mill homebred Monsieur Bondy) and Richard Fahey. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 06/09/2025 | Action centred around Haydock today where there was no joy in the Sprint Cup, but Karl Burke's Zeus Olympios did retain his unbeaten record when going clear to land the Superior Mile G3. Later stablemate Shayem was third in the Ascendant Stakes L whilst David O'Meara's Stressfree was third in the £51,540 Old Borough Cup Handicap and David & Nicola Barron's Jer Batt was also third in the £25,770 Be Friendly Handicap whilst David O'Meara took the last. At Ascot the Branton Court Stud bred, Karl Burke trained, Native Warrior put up another good performance when landing the £41,232 Schweppes Handicap. At Kempton meanwhile David O'Meara's Rogue Supremacy finished third (a nose and a neck behind the winner) but was placed second, in the Sirenia Stakes G3. He is 'bred' by 'Coverdale Stud' (aka John Dance), although how much time he actually spent in Yorkshire as a juvenille remains to be seen. Thirsk saw local winners for Karl Burke and Ann Duffield. Ed Bethell sent Point Lynas to Kentucky for the Fan Duel TV Mint Millions Invitational Stakes G3 although he only managed seventh under one Frankie Dettori, but still picked up around £20,000 for his efforts. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 30/08/2025 | Pride of place today goes to Harriet Bethell who landed the biggest win of her career at Chester when Yanifer won the £51,540 Virgin Bet Supports Safe Gambling Handicap at 11-1. At Beverely Mark Walford landed the £16,042 Wm Hill Silver Cup with Spioradalta and David O'Meara's Star Of Lady M was third in the Bevereley Bullet L (in which Regional finished a worryingly tailed off last). Julie Camacho and Charlie Johnston won the last two. Evening action at Chelmsford yielded a winner for Nigel Tinkler. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 28/08/2025 | Final day of the Racing League, this time at Southwell, and the final race sees the Mick & David Easterby trained Canon's House hold on by a head to land the £38,655 Racing League Race 42 Handicap, with Nigel Tinkler's Muker back in third. Earlier Liam Bailey's Say What You See took the £18,039 'Race 36' (by a head from Charlie Johnston's Spirit Of Jura), Charlie Johnston's Benacre won the £18,039 'Race 37' whilst David O'Meara's veteran Aberama Gold landed the £18,039 'Race 38' (with Richard Fahey's Havana Rum a neck away in second and Tim Easterby's Miss Hathaway a further head away in third). Charlie Johnston's Artisan Dancer was second in the £26,170 'Race 39' and Karl Burke's Gloriously Sassy likewise in the £25,770 'Race 40'. Burke had earlier taken the opener at Newbury and Jedd O'Keeffe the last at Ffos Las. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 25/08/2025 | Bank Holiday fayre at Ripon where there is a Yorkshire clean sweep in the EBF Ripon Champion Two Yrs Old Trophy L with Tim Easterby's 14-1 shot Anaisa (kind of homebred as bred by Habton Racing, but since sold) coming home at 12-1 in front of Gemma Tutty's Awraad and Karl Burke's Lam Yai, interestingly all three are fillies despite it not being a 'fillies only' race. Easterby's Barley is second in the £15,462 Ripon Rowels and there are local winners for Mark Walford, Adrian Keatley and Simon Whitaker. Justin Landy has a winner at Cartmel where a horse crashes through the barrier, injuring spectators. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 24/08/2025 | Back to Deauville and Karl Burke, having provided Yorkshire with it's first Group One of the season, also provides the second when the unbeaten Venetian Sun lands the 'best two year old race of the season thus far' in the form of the Prix Morny G1. Looks like she will go to the Moyglare next, with connections seemingly having no worries about the step up in trip. It's quite a good day at Goodwood as well with Karl Burke's Aylin third in the Prestige Fillies' Stakes G3 and Charlie Johnston's Arisaig occupying the same position in the Celebration Mile G2, Johnston's Ancient Egypt landed the £16,200 Novice race, earning a 'Rising Star' from TDN in the process. Gemma Tutty, Jessica Macey, Jedd O'Keeffe, Mick & David Easterby and Declan Carroll all had winners at Bevereley. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 23/08/2025 | Another Yorkshire winner at the Ebor meeting when Tim Easterby's Revival Power, a full sister to former stable star Winter Power, prevails by a head in the Roses Stakes L, with Kevin Ryan's Dickensian back in third. The day kicked off with Karl Burke's Boiling Point running a head second in the Strensall Stakes G3, French trained Maranoa Charlie (effectively owned by Yapham Mill) was third in the City Of York Stakes G1. David O'Meara's Stressfree was best placed of the local runners in the Ebor itself, picking up £25,000 for finishing fourth. Yapham Mill bred Pocklington, trained by Geoff Oldroyd, was a head and neck third in the £61,848 Constantine Heritage Handicap and Tim Easterby's Per Contra was a neck second in the £51,540 Sky Bet Steve Birch Finale Heritage Handicap. At Goodwood David O'Meara's Darkness picked up the £51,540 Virgin Bet Every Saturday Money Back Handicap. At The Curragh Karl Burke's Evolutionist was third in the Debutante Stakes G2 whilst Redcar yielded doubles for both Julie Camacho and Tim Easterby and Richard Fahey also had a winner whilst Roger Fell and David O'Meara had a winner apiece at Newmarket. Jumps action saw Micky Hammond take the opener at Cartmel. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 22/08/2025 | It took us till Day Three, but there was finally a local winner on the Knavesmire when Declan Carroll's undefeated Lifeplan nicely landed the Gimcrack Stakes G2 by a length from Kevin Ryan's Rock On Thunder in second, the pair well clear of the third. This represents a high point for Carroll's career to date and hopefully the colt will progress to even greater heights (although what could beat a win at the Ebor meeting !!?!). Kevin Ryan had another second in the next when 100-1 outsider Ain't Nobody was runner-up in the Nunthorpe Stakes G1, with the Karl Burke trained Night Raider back in in fourth. Karl Burke's Al Qareem was fourth in the Lonsdale Cup G2, Charlie Johnston's Blessed Star dead-heated for second in the £51,540 Assured Data Protection EBF Fillies' Heritage Handicap, Karl Burke's Naval Light was third in the £51,540 'Convivial' Maiden Stakes and Geoff Oldroyd's Big Leader was a short head second in the £51,540 Sky Bet Mile Heritage Handicap, a neck in front of Charlie Johnston's Sir Paul Ramsey. Stakes racing wasn't limited to York and at Newmarket Karl Burke's Lethal Levi comfortably landed the spoils in the Hopeful Stakes L. Evening racing at Hamilton saw David O'Meara's three year old filly Aequitas impressively land the £20,616 Darley EBF Novice Stakes on her debut and Julie Camacho also had a winner. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 21/08/2025 | Day two on the Knavesmire, and still no winner, but quite a few second places, the most significant of which was David O'Meara's Estrange being beaten for the first time this season when runner-up in the Yorkshire Oaks G1. Connections still seems confident for the Arc however, where the going should be more to her liking. Earlier stablemate Cerulean Bay was second in the £77,310 Clipper Heritage Handicap and Richard Fahey's Boston Dan, still a maiden, picked up a not-too-shabby £135,583 for runner-up in the Harry's Half Million By Goffs. Karl Burke's Karmology was a decent third in the Sir Henry Cecil Galtres Stakes L. Evening action switched to Newcastle for the Racing League and here Richard Fahey's Golden Mind took the £38,655 'Race 32', Charlie Johnston's Sax Appeal the £18,039 'Race 29' and Brian Ellison's Northern Spirit the £18,039 'Race 33' (in which Fahey's South Parade was a nose third), Tim Easterby's Per Contra was a short head third in the £25,770 'Race 30'. John & Sean Quinn and Charlie Johnston took the last two races on Lingfield's evening card. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 20/08/2025 | Day one of the Ebor meeting at York saw no Yorkshire trained winners but Pride of Arras (bred by David & VimyAykroyd at Copgrove Hall Stud), now gelded, bounced back to form to land the Great Volitgeur Stakes G2 nicely. Earlier Geoff Oldroyd's Air Force One was third in the £61,848 Hong Kong Jockey Club World Pool Heritage Handicap and Adrian Keatley's Rochforthbridge was fourth in the Acomb Stakes G3 whilst later on the card Charlie Johnston's Artisan Dancer was second in the £51,540 Sky Bet Stayers Heritage Handicap and Kevin Ryan's Mo Of Cairo and Adrian Keatley's Chairmanfourtimes were second and third respectively in the £51,540 Sky Bet Nursery Handicap. Up at Carlisle there were winners for Kevin Ryan, Tim Easterby, Julie Camacho and David & Nicola Barron. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 17/08/2025 | Kevin Ryan's Magic Basma gained her first bit of black type today when second in the Flying Fillies' Stakes L at Pontefract. David O'Meara, Charlie Johnston and Ruth Carr provided the local winners on the card. Karl Burke provided the only Yorkshire winner at Southwell, courtesy of First Ambition, the first foal of former stable star Laurens, the gelding is now two for two. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 16/08/2025 | Two seconds for David O'Meara at Newbury today with Epic Poet, co-favourite, runner up in the Geoffrey Freer Stakes G3 and Leadman going down by a head in the £25,770 TPT Fire Handicap. Mark Walford clearly had grand designs on the £51,540 Great St Wilfrid Handicap at Ripon, but it didn't quite come off with Kodiac Thriller second in the race itself (with Julie Camacho's First Folio third) and stablemate It Just Takes Time likewise second in the 'Consolation' £12,885 MND Silver Cup Handicap, which at least was won by Richard Fahey's Havana Rum, with Ruth Carr's Kats Bob third. Mark Walford did have a winner in the last and David O'Meara also scored. At Newmarket, where Karl Burke had a double, Charlie Johnston's Spirit Of Jura couldn't justify favouritism when third in the £25,770 JenningsBet Fillies' Handicap. Tim Easterby, Nigel Tinkler and Geoff Oldroyd all had winners at Doncaster, the later with the Yapham Mill homebred Project Geofin. Late afternoon/early evening jumps action saw a winner for Adrian Keatley at Market Rasen and a double for Patrick Neville at Perth. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 14/08/2025 | The Racing League circus moved on to Windsor this week where Julie Camacho's Zapphire landed the £25,700 'Race 26', and Tim Easterby's Financer finished second in the £38,655 'Race 28'. Daytime racing had seen a double for Tim Easterby at Beverley where Richard Fahey and Paul Midgley also had winners. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 10/08/2025 | Ed Bethell's Regional ran respectably enough when fourth in the Prix Maurice de Gheest G1 at Deauville today. Adrian Keatley, Paul Midgley and Tim Easterby all landed £15,462 races at Haydock, whilst Karl Burke and David O'Meara both had doubles at Leicester and Paul Midgley and Charlie Johnston both had winners at Wolverhampton. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 09/08/2025 | 'Only' one Yorkshire winner on Shergar Cup Day at Ascot, with Richard Fahey's Vintage Clarets landing the opening £39,344 Shergar Cup Dash, with Kevin Ryan's Venture Capital in third, but there were also a good sprinkling of placings with Charlie Johnston's La Pulga second in the £39,344 Shergar Cup Challenge, Julie Camacho's Milford occupying the same position in the £39,344 'Sprint, Gemma Tutty's Team Player likewise in the £39,344 'Classic' and David O'Meara's Cerulean Bay ALSO second in the £49,180 'Mile' , Charlie Johnston's Artisan Dancer was third in the 'Stayyers'. Ay Haydock the progression of Charlie Johnston's Suite Francais continued apace when she was the start to finish winner by two lengths of the Dick Hern Stakes L and, later on the card, stablemate Sir Paul Ramsey took the £16,200 mile handicap. At Newmarket Charlie Johnston's Venetian Lace was third in the Sweet Solera Stakes G3 and David O'Meara took the last. Over at the Curragh Tim Easterby's Art Power, now eight, made his seasonal reappearance after 294 days off track and was a creditable fourth in the Phoenix Sprint Stakes G3. There were winners for Geoff Oldroyd, Tim Easterby, Charlie Johnston, Ed Bethell and David & Nicola Barron at Redcar. Evening raving yielded wins at Ayr for Tim Easterby, David O'Meara and John & Sean Quinn and for Charlie Johnston at Lingfield. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 07/08/2025 | Just the one 'Racing League' winner at Chepstow for Yorkshire with Adrian Keatley's Roberto Caro landing the £25,770 '15' race. Brian Ellison's Lir Speciale was second in the £18,039 '16' race, with Tim Easterby's Yermanthere third and Easterby's Vince L'Amour was second in the £18,039 '19' race. Charlie Johnston and Nigel Tinkler had a winner apiece at Chelmsford whilst Ed Bethell and Jedd O'Keeffe did likewise at Nottingham. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 03/08/2025 | A very good day for Yorkshire at Deauville. First up, and most importantly, the Karl Burke trained, Branton Court Stud bred (but sold) Fallen Angel returned to winnings ways to land the Prix Rothschild G1 ; finally Yorkshire's first top level winner of the season. Later on the card Tadej, jointly bred by Star Cottage Stud, landed the Prix de Cabourg G3 for Lambourn (can't have everything I suppose!) trainer Archie Watson. Domestically Charlie Johnston, Craig Lidster and Richard Fahey all had winners at Chester. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 02/08/2025 | Not the best day from the Yorkshire perspective, although Richard Fahey's Strike Red did run a blinder to finish second in the Stewards' Cup at Goodwood, picking up £60,425 in the process. Later on the card Charlie Johnston's Evanesco was a neck second in the valuable maiden, collecting £18,127. At Thirsk Geoff Oldroyd's Big Leader landed the £15,702 Wm Hill Summer Cup Handicap, with Kevin Ryan's Hi Royal third and there were also winners for Kevin Ryan, Karl Burke, David O'Meara, Geoffrey Harker, Seb Spencer and Nigel Tinkler. Ivan Furtado and Mark Walford provided the local winners at Doncaster. Hamilton's evening meeting saw a Karl Burke double, Kevin Ryan's Venture Capital finish a neck second in the £15,462 'Soba' Handicap and winners singular for Charlie Johnston and Adrian Nicholls. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 01/08/2025 | Always nice to kick off a new month with a new group winner, and that happened today when John & Sean Quinn's JM Jungle held on gamely to land the King George Stakes G2 by a neck. Now a five year old JM Jungle has progressed steadily (and slowly!) through the handicap ranks, indeed his last outing when third at Chester was his first stakes run, but, equally, he has landed a good haul of 'big' handicap prize money as well, however this is clearly a new career high. The previous race had seen another major victory with David O'Meara's Rhoscolyn, now seven, landing the £77,310 Golden Mile Handicap, he actually has a not-dissimilar profile to JM Jungle, albeit he was black type placed as far back as 2021 (when he was also second in this race). Declan Carroll and Roger Fell had a winner apiece at Southwell, Micky Hammond, Grant Tuer and Tim Easterby all scored at Newcastle. Evening racing at Musselurgh saw another Grant Tuer winner and a Philip Kirby double. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 31/07/2025 | We'll start with Goodwood Day Three, for continuity, but Yorkshire's best results today actually came elsewhere. There was a Yorkshire winner on the Sussex Downs however with Karl Burke's Aylin leading home a Yorkshire 1-2-3 in the £30,924 Tatler British EBF Maiden Fillies' Stakes with Kevin Ryan's Isle Of Fernandez and Charlie Johnston's Ice Sovereigns taking up the minor placings. In addtion Charlie Johnston's Marhaba Ghaiyath was a neck second in the £51,540 Kincsem Handicap, stablemate Champion Island was third in the £30,924 Phase Eight Nursery Handicap and Philip Makin's Impertiality a neck second in the £25,770 World Pool Bet With The Tote Handicap. Over a Galway Richard Fahey's Tropical Island just held on by a short head to land the Corrib Fillies Stakes L. It was also Richard Fahey taking the money in the Racing League at Wolverhampton with Stormy Impact landin the £38,655 'Race 11' Handicap from Tim Easterby's Fivethousandtoone whilst Charlie Johnston's La Pulga was neck second (they're having a lot of those!) in the £25,770 'Race 10' and Tim Eaterby's Love Is The Law was third in the £18,039 'Race 12'. Elsewhere Nigel Tinkler had a winner at Nottingham. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 30/07/2025 | No winners on Day Two of Goodwood, but some good placings. Charlie Johnston's Mdawi is a 22-1 second in the opening £38,655 Coral Pipped At The Post Winners Handicap whilst the next race sees Karl Burke's Bright Thunder finish only third when favourite for the Oak Tree Stakes G3. The Molecomb Stakes G3 sees Tim Easterby's tough Argentine Tango finish second, with Kevin Ryan's Dickensian third. Easterby's Revivial Power is second in the £38,655 Alice Keppel Fillies' Stakes, with Brian Ellison's Temple Of Athena third whilst Karl Burke's Native Warrior (bred by Branton Court) is third in the £25,770 World Pool Bet With The tote Handicap. Redcar yields winners for Charlie Johnston, Mick & David Easterby and Sam England. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 29/07/2025 | Day one of Glorious Goodwood sees Ruth Carr's Brazen Bolt hold on by a nose to land the £38,655 Coral Golden Rewards Shaker Handicap, a homebred for Doncaster owners Fishlake Commercial Motors. Julie Camacho's Naqeeb was second in the £51,540 Chesterfield Cup and Charlie Johnston's Blessed Star third in the £25,70 Ridgeview Fillies' Handicap. At Beverley the Tim Easterby and Ruth Carr trained runners dead-heated for the Amateur Jocks Handicap, and both those trainers had two more winners later on the card, so a double treble. Amo Racing's 1.1m gns purchase Ancient Egypt scored on debut for Charlie Johnston and there was also a winner for Brian Ellison, meaning the locals went through the card, in fact, arguably, 8 winners from 7 races ! Evening racing at Ripon was less successful for the locals although Tim Easterby did chalk up yet another winner. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 27/07/2025 | A Brian Ellison runner in France is a rare event, even more so if it's a two-year-old, but Wor Faayth justified favouritism at La Teste de Buch today to land the Criterium du Bequet L by an extended two lengths, easing down. Adrian Keatley, Geoff Oldroyd, David O'Meara and Julie Camacho were rewarded with winners at the somewhat closer to hand Pontefract. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 26/07/2025 | Pride of place today went to Karl Burke's Royal Champion who, Group Three and Listed wins notwithstanding, ran his best race since his transfer to Middleham when handily landing the York Stakes G2, with Richard Fahey's progressive Ecureuil Secret in third. Earlier Fahey's Rock Opera was a decent third in the £51,540 Sky Bet Dash , stablemate Golden Palace having landed the opener and there also being winners for Geoff Olryod, Craig Lidster and Grant Tuer. No joy at Ascot although David O'Meara's Sword was a decent third in the £77,310 Moet & Chandon International Heritage Handicap. Charlie Johnston had an opening races double at Newcastle where Brian Ellison, John Wainwright and Lawrence Mullaney also had winners whilst Gemma Tutty and Mick & David Easterby scored at Chester. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 24/07/2025 | The premiere race of the day, the Star Stakes L at Sandown, sees a Yorkshire 1-2 with Karl Burke's Hope Queen prevailing by a neck in the dying strides from Charlie Johnston's Jennifer Jane, although must be slightly galling for Johnston as the winner's dam was trained by Mark Johnston and the grandam is non other than former Kingsley House star Attraction ! Racing League action in the evening sees Charlie Johnston's Pole Star land the £25,770 Racing League Race 6 Handicap and Julie Camacho's Solar Aclaim the £25,770 Racing League Race 5 Handicap whilst Johnston's Qitaal is second in 'Race 7' and Brian Ellison's Lir Speciale likewise in 'Race 3'. Must take them ages to come up with the race names, much kudos. Doncaster had seen winners for Sam England, Mark Walford and John & Sean Quinn whilst Newbury's evening meeting yielded a winner for Karl Burke. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 20/07/2025 | Over at Chantilly the Karl Burke trained Super Solider was a solid second, beaten only a neck, in the Prix Robert Papin G2. Cathedral, bred by the late Sir Robert Ogden, occupied the same position, although somewhat further back, in the Prix Chloe G3. There were winners for John Wainwright, Tim Easterby, Fionn McSharry and Julie Camacho at Redcar. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 19/07/2025 | Another busy, and mostly sodden, day of racing. At Newbury Ed Bethell's Regional couldn't justify favouritism, or get back to winning ways, when a head third in the Hackwood Stakes G3. Market Rasen saw Adrian Keatley's versatile Kihavah finish second in the £31,686 Summer Handicap Hurdle. The Yorkshire 'Summer' (ha, ha) Festival kicked off at Ripon where there were local winners for Karl Burke (the Branton Court bred debutante Stargazed), David O'Meara (a double), Tony Coyle & Kaine Wood, John & Sean Quinn and Nigel Tinkler (Roundhay Park landing his 13th win from 86 starts at the age of 10!) whilst the feature £25,770 Ripon Bell-Ringer Handicap went to the Yorkshire bred William Haggas with Tim Easterby's Per Contra second and Kevin Ryan's Fox Journey third. Evening racing saw another old-timer win in the guise of the Charlie Johnston trained Dutch Decoy (11th win from 78 starts at the age of 8) . Brian Ellison, Julie Camacho and Charlie Johnston had winners at Doncaster. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 18/07/2025 | An absolutely ridiculous amount of racing on today, for a Friday. Friday evenings I get, but did Nottingham really have to have an afternoon meeting today ? (Yorkshire) performance of the day came at Newbury where Kevin Ryan's Rock On Thunder picked up valuable 'black type' when second in the Rose Bowl Stakes L, albeit she was beaten four lengths. Tim Easterby presumably does think Nottingham made the right decision, as he had a double and Paul Midgley also had a winner, whilst Ed Bethell, Ben Haslam and Richard Fahey did likewise at Haydock. Evening racing at Hamilton saw a winner for Kevin Ryan who's old warrior Bergerac was third in the £18,039 Scottish Stewards' Cup Handicap, with the Pontefract meeting yielding a double for Jedd O'Keeffe and winners singular for Tim Easterby, David O'Meara and Ruth Carr. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 13/07/2025 | After the chaos of yesterday is was a quiet Sunday , albeit with a valuable all-weather card at Southwell where Kevin Ryan's Against The Wind took the £39,255 Highbet Wimbledon Sports Welcome Offer Handicap with the Ed Bethell trained, West Moor Stud homebred Fluorescence in third, only a head off second. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 12/07/2025 | Another very busy Saturday ... let's start at York
where Karl Burke's ever-dependable Al
Qareem was an easy winner of the John Smith's Silver Cup
Stakes G3, Brian Ellison's
Onesmoothoperator finishing fourth. Earlier Kevin
Ryan's Washington Heights was pulling further
ahead at the line when landing the City Walls Stakes L,
with John & Sean Quinn's JM Jungle
in third. Ed Bethell's See That Storm
was second again this time though collecting
£48,340 in the John Smith's Cup Heritage Handicap,
whilst KevinRyan's Sisyphean and David
O'Meara's Bopedro were second and third in the
£23,193 John Smith's Racing Handicap whilst Brian
Ellison and David O'Meara took
the last two races. More seconds at Ascot with Ed
Bethell's Point Lynas in the Summer Mile Stakes G2
and Ruth Carr's Reigning Profit
in the £51,540 LK Bennett Butterfly Mark Heritage
Handicap. No winner at the main meeting of the day, the
finale of the Newmarket July Meeting, although Charlie
Johnston's Venetian Lace was fourth in the
Superlative Stakes G2. Evening racing
saw doubles for Richard Fahey and Charlie
Johnston (including the Friar Ings bred
Me And Bobby McGee) at Hamilton, where Ed Bethell
also had a winner whilst Charlie
Johnston and David O'Meara had
winners at Chester. Almost half way through July and despite placings in three Derby's and five Group Two winners there has yet to be a Yorkshire trained Group One winner this season ..... |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 11/07/2025 | Day two of Newmarket's July festival and things go much better with Karl Burke's odd-ons favourite Venetian Sun landing the Duchess of Cambridge Stakes G2, with Tim Easterby's Argentine Tango a creditable third. The winner goes for the Morny or Moyglare next, the Lowther was the original plan, but she was entered in today's race at the last minute, and connections now want to aim for a Group One. Earlier Charlie Johnston's Marhaba Ghaiyyath was a decent second in the £51,540 bet365 Heritage Handicap and David O'Meara's Leadman picked up the £15,462 Dubai Racing Club Handicap later on the card. At York there were winners for Julie Camacho and Ruth Carr and David O'Meara's Nighteyes was a closing second in the Summer Stakes G3. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 10/07/2025 | Day one of the July meeting and Yorkshire isn't well represented in the major stakes races but Charlie Johnston's Dutch Decoy lands the closing £15,462 Federation Of Bloodstock Agents Handicap and Kevin Ryan's American Style picks up a useful £24,170 when second in the Bet Boost at bet365 Heritage Handicap. There are winners at Carlisle for Ian McInnes, Seb Spencer, Karl Burke and Richard Fahey with Julie Camacho landing a double at Doncaster. Evening racing sees a winner for Charlie Johnston at Newbury. Earlier in the week Johnston's Green Storm was sold for 380,000gns to continue his career in Qatar. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 06/07/2025 | Relatively little domestic racing today! I don't think the Chester Vase form needed much franking, but it happened anyway today with Karl Burke's Convergent, third at Chester, a short head second in the Deutsches Derby G1. It was a good day on the continent for Burke as Bright Thunder won the Prix Goldikova L at Deauville where stablemate Spycatcher was second in the Prix de Ris-Orangis G3 (with David O'Meara's promising new recruit a decent fourth) and Ellusive(sic) Butterfly a neck third in the Prix Roland de Chambure L. On the home front there were winners at Ayr for John & Sean Quinn, David O'Meara and Mick & David Easterby and for Peter Atkinson at Market Rasen. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 05/07/2025 | Another crammed Saturday program. The Yorkshire highlight comes at Haydock where David O'Meara's Estrange lands the Lancashire Oaks G2 although possibly not as convincingly as connections might have liked, only prevailing by a neck, Grant Tuer's Love Talk was a 100-1 defying third, albeit only four runners ! O'Meara also 'won' the last with We Dare To Dream, but he was placed second after a Steward's Enquiry. Earlier Charlie Johnston's Pole Star had landed the £51,540 bet365 Handicap by a short head from stablemate Novelista. Charlie Johnston also did well at Sandown with Arisaig second in the £63,700 Coral Challenge and Suite Francais, having only her third run, third in the Coral Distaff L. At Beverley Karl Burke's Karmology, homebred by David & Yvonne Blunt, was second in the Charlie Wood Stakes L and there were winners for Charlie Johnston, Kevin Ryan, John Wainwright and Julie Camacho. Karl Burke's Arabie Arabie (bred by Robert Cornelius at Copgrove Hall Stud) was second in the Prix Kistena L at Deauville. Evening racing saw the 'Lady Jocks' night at Carlisle with winners for Grant Tuer, Sam England, John & Sean Quinn, Philip Makin and Harriet Bethell whilst Paul Midgley had a double at Nottingham where David O'Meara also had a winner. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 29/06/2025 | Irish Derby day at the Curragh and Charlie Johnston's Lazy Griff runs his usual consistent race to be a decent third, ridiculous that he was sent off at 14-1 ! The St.Leger will almost certainly be the long-term plan now, it's just a question of where he goes in between. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 28/06/2025 | Typical high summer busy Saturday. Meeting of the day was Plate Day at Newcastle where the Tim Easterby trained Fivethousandtoone prevailed by a short head in the £25,770 JenningsBet 200 Shops Nationwide Handicap from the Yapham Mill bred, Geoff Oldroyd trained, Pocklington and Karl Burke's Native Warrior (bred by Branton Court) won the £25,770 Pertemps Network Handicap , Charlie Johnston took the last. At York Nigel Tinkler landed his second big sprint in as many days when Squealer came home ahead of John & Sean Quinn's JM Jungle and Ed Bethell's Azure Angel in the £33,501 Dubai Dash. Kevin Ryan's Room Service was second in the relocated Criterion Stakes G3, with Ed Bethell's Paborus back in third and Karl Burke and Julie Camacho had under-card winners. Charlie Johnston had a winner at Chester and Nigel Tinkler and Ed Bethell both scored on Doncaster's evening card. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 27/06/2025 | The traditional 'eve of Plate' meeting at Newcastle this evening sees a Yorkshire clear sweep in the £30,924 Gosforth Park Cup Handicap with Nigel Tinkler's Paddy's Day taking the honours by a nose from Richard Fahey's Vintage Clarets with Tim Easterby's Monks Dream in third. Brian Ellison and Paul Midgley also had winners on the card. Harriet Bethell, Bryan Smart and Julie Camacho had winners at Doncaster, Charlie Johnston likewise at Newmarket and Andy Crook and Sam England scored at Cartmel. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 26/06/2025 | Tim Easterby's Argentine Tango was allowed to start at 9-1 today and prevailed by a head when landing the Empress Fillies' Stakes L at Newmarket. At Newcastle there were doubles for both Tim Easterby and Brian Ellison with the later also having a winner on Hamilton's evening card where Richard Fahey, Ed Bethell, Charlie Johnston and Harriet Bethell also had winners . The other evening meeting at Leicester saw yet another winner for Tim Easterby and also for Roger Fell, Julie Camacho and Charlie Johnston. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 22/06/2025 | Today was 'tiny number of runners' day at Pontefract, where Karl Burke's Karmology was a neck second in the Pontefract Castle Fillies' Stakes L (7 runners). Burke had landed the opener (3 runners) and Brian Ellison (5 runner field) and Harriet Bethell (6 runner field) also had winners. Sam England, Sara Ender and Patrick Neville all had winners at Hexham. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 21/06/2025 | Ostensibly another sub-par day at Royal Ascot, however David O'Meara's Nighteyes was a eye-catching fourth in the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes G1, picking up £53,600 for connections whilst earlier Charlie Johnston's Venetian Lace was fourth, beaten only a nose, in the Chesham Stakes L. Johnton had a winner at Newmarket whilst Grant Tuer, Kevin Ryan, Ed Bethel and John Wainwright scored at Redcar. Evening racing saw a winner at Haydock for Charlie Johnston (the very well bred Burj Zabeel) who also scored at Redcar (with the Friar Ings bred Anthropologist) as did Kevin Ryan. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 20/06/2025 | A much better day at Royal Ascot, proceedings kicked off with the Karl Burke trained Venetian Sun landing the Albany Stakes G3 , the trainer believes she is the best two year old filly he has ever trained, quite some statement. Julie Camacho's (relatively) new recruit Naqeeb was a decent third in the Duke of Edinburgh Stakes and Ed Bethell's Oolong Poobong occupied fourth in the Sandringham Fillies' Handicap. It was yet another good day for the Aykroyd/Copgrove combination when Vimy Akyroyd's Amiloc, bred as a boarder at Copgrove Hall Stud, nicely won the King Edward VII Stakes G2 .... whether Amiloc and Pride of Arras will ever meet on the track remains to be seen ! Finally Kevin Ryan's Hammer The Hammer was a decent second in the closing Palace Of Holyroodhouse Handicap. Redcar saw a Charlie Johnston double as well as winners for Ann Duffield and Tim Easterby whilst evening racing at Newmarket saw another Charlie Johnston double , making it 16 winners (and a Derby second !) from 61 runners in the last two weeks. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 19/06/2025 | Day three ... no winners. David O'Meara's Akkadian Thunder came closest when a strong second in the Buckingham Palace Handicap, whilst Kevin Ryan's Ameeq (interestingly bred by Coverdale Stud, aka John Dance) was fourth in the Norfolk Stakes G2. Ripon's card included, as usual, the 'Ladies Derby', which fell to the Liam Bailey trained Yakhaber under Amy Collier and other local winners were provided by David O'Meara, Gemma Tutty and Tim Easterby. Charlie Johnston had a double at Wetherby's evening meeting where Richard Fahey and Grant Tuer also had winners. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 18/06/2025 | Still no Yorkshire winners at Royal Ascot, but the placings were a little more widespread today. First up the Karl Burke trained, Branton Court bred (but no longer owned) Fallen Angel was a decent third, only a head out of second, in the Duke of Cambridgeshire Stakes G2. David O'Meara's Bopedro, still a money-spinner at the age of nine, was third in the Royal Hunt Cup whilst Kevin Ryan's Dickensian and Karl Burke's Azizam were second and third respectively in the Windsor Castle Stakes L. Richard Fahey, Mick & David Easterby, Ruth Carr and David O'Meara each had a winner at Hamilton whilst the evening card at Ripon saw winners for Tim Easterby, Charlie Johnston and Grant Tuer. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 17/06/2025 | Day one of Royal Ascot sees no Yorkshire winners, but Ed Bethell's Regional put up his usual game performance to be third in the King Charles III Stakes G1, with Branton Court bred Starlust a neck further back in fourth. Charlie Johnston and Paul Midgley had a winner apiece at Thirsk whilst evening racing resulted in winners at Southwell for Declan Carroll and Geoff Oldroyd and at Beverley for Karl Burke, Ruth Carr, Ian McInnes (first win of the season) and Craig Lidster. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 15/06/2025 | Today at Chantilly the Karl Burke duo of Ali Shuffle and Meelaf were second and fourth respectively in the Prix du Bois G3 whilst Ed Bethell's Point Lynas, the long time leader, was a close fourth in the Prix Bertrand du Breuil G3. A fairly valuable pre-Ascot card at Hamilton with winners for Karl Burke, Mick & David Easterby and Kevin Ryan whilst Charlie Johnston and Richard Fahey both had doubles at Doncaster with David O'Meara, Nigel Tinkler and Brian Ellison also landing win on Town Moor. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 14/06/2025 | Karl Burke's ever-reliable Al Qareem (now well over half a million in prize money) landed his second listed race of the season today when taking the Grand Cup Stakes L at York by over four lengths. Ruth Carr took the last on the Knavesmire, but otherwise not much joy for the locals. Tim Easterby's Copper Knight struck for the second time this week, this time at Chester, where Julie Camacho also had a winner. Charlie Johnston took the last at Bath. Adrian Keatley had a novices' chase winner on Uttoxeter's evening card, whilst Peter Atkinson's win at Hexham came over hurdles. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 09/06/2025 | The Doyenne of Yorkshire trainers Peter Easterby sadly passed away this morning at the age of 95. One of thegreatest dual-purpose trainers of all time he trained 2,513 winners over 46 seasons, and remains the only person to train over 1,000 winners under both codes. Quality wise however there was a lean in to the jumps, especially in the second half of his career, and he was Champion Jumps Trainer three years running 78/79, 79/80 and 80/81 and won five Champion Hurdles and two Cheltenham Gold Cups amongst a host of other top races. He trained his first winner in 1953, and his last in 1996 and in between he had the likes of Sea Pigeon, Night Nurse, Saucy Kit, Little Owl, Alverton, Goldhill, Old Tom, Easby Abbey, Sula Bula, Bronze Hill, Town Ship, King Weasel, Clayside, Ryeman, Sonnen Gold, Polly's Brother, Able Albert, Final Shot and St.Ninian. Appropriately Tim Easterby's ever-popular Copper Knight took the opener at Pontefract and there was a double for Paul Midgely and a winner for Charlie Johnston, Sam England had a winner over hurdles at Southwell. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 07/06/2025 | Charlie Johnston's Lazy Griff, looking every inch the reincarnation of former Kingsley Park incumbent Dee Ex Dee, was a gallant second in the Epsom Derby G1 today, no match for the winner but beating a lot of classy horses. Surely it's only a matter of time till there is a Yorkshire Derby winner !?! Lazy Griff's future targets look very similar to the path Dee Ex Dee took, with the German Derby additionally thrown into the potential mix. Stablemate Green Storm was just out of the money in seventh whilst Pride Of Arras, bumped at the start, finished second to last. Thanks again to Betfred for the 'free' bets! There were actually lots of Yorkshire seconds at Epsom today, but also plenty of winners. Proceedings kicked off with Karl Burke's Bright Thunder second in the Princess Elizabeth Stakes G3, with stablemate Ice Max then occuping the same position in the Diomed Stakes G3. The first Yorkshire winner on the card was supplied by Richard Fahey, doubling up at the meeting, when Stormy Impact took the £38,655 Betfred 3yo 'Dash' Handicap under 5lb claimer Warren Fentiman (yes, 'son of...' !). Next up, immediately before the Derby, John & Sean Quinn's JM Jungle, after a series of strong placings this term, came home in front in the £50,960 Aston Martin 'Dash' Heritage Handicap, their The Trickster was also third in the penultimate race whilst Mick & David Easterby's Sondad took the closing £38,655 JRA Tokyo Trophy to top an excellent (albeit not quite perfect ....) Yorkshire day in Surrey. In a classic (or rather .. non classic) example of the wrong horse winning Charlie Johnston's Thunder Wonder prevailed by a nose in the £25,770 Edinburgh Gold Cup at Musselburgh, with David O'Meara's We Dare To Dream in third. Alan Brown and Karl Burke also had winners whilst Brian Ellison's Perfect Part was fourth in the Queen Of Scots Fillies' Stakes L. Evening racing saw winners at Doncaster for Harriet Bethell, Tim Easterby, David O'Meara and Charlie Johnston , with the later's Novelista a head second in the £25,770 Class 2 Handicap and Ben Haslam's Pal Joey third in the valuable novice race (at 150-1!). Adrian Keatley had a winner over hurdles at Hexham. Roll of Royal Ascot. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 06/06/2025 | Oaks/Coronation Cup Day at Epsom sees Richard Fahey's Ecureuil Secret storm home by four lengths under almost top-weight to land the £50,960 Betfred Nifty 50 Handicap at 28-1. Later David O'Meara's Mirsky justified favouritism to win the £38,655 TrustATrader Handicap, with stablemate Julia Augusta in third, whilst Richard Fahey's Golden Mind was second, beaten only a head, in the £38,655 Debenhams Handicap with O'Meara's Rhoscolyn in third. Thirsk yielded a double for Mick & David Easterby and winners for David O'Meara, Julie Camacho, Charlie Johnston and Seb Spencer. Joel Parkinson & Sue Smith had a double at Bangor. Evening racing saw Charlie Johnston land the closing race at Bath and another winner for David O'Meara at Doncaster whilst Ed Bethell had a winner on the 'apprentice' card at Goodwood. At shout out to Betfred for a) sponsoring the Derby meeting and b) offering £50 of free bets (albeit £20 of that is for accumulators) for me to bet (e/w!) on the Yorkshire angle in the Derby tomorrow, the initial £10 I had to pay in return went on Jan Brueghel, so I'm 'up' on the deal whatever happens tomorrow, although Ecureuil Secret would have been a better bet ! My first bets in years! | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 01/06/2025 | A reasonably valuable card at Chelmsford sees winners for Charlie Johnston (debuntante Venetian Lace) and Paul Midgley (Spring Is Sprung) whilst Kevin Ryan and Tony Coyle & Kaine Wood have winners at Nottingham and Micky Hammond strikes at Fakenham. Karl Burke's Super Solider is second in the Prix la Fleche L at Chantilly whilst stablemate Arabie (bred at Copgrove Hall Stud) is fourth in the Prix Marchand d'Or L. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 31/05/2025 | A fairly busy late spring Saturday, but no problems identifying performance of the day with David O'Meara's Estrange very impressive when landing the Lester Piggott Fillies' Stakes G3 by over four lengths. Quite whether the daughter of Night Of Thunder is up to the hype ("possibly the best I've ever trained", and a 16-1 quote for the Arc) remains to be seen, but certainly something to look forward to over the summer. That was the second part of a big-race double for O'Meara with Stressfree earlier landing the opening £23,193 Betfred "Play Fred's £5 Million" Handicap by a neck , Ed Bethell's Oolong Poobong took the decent fillies' handicap, Kevin Ryan's Volterra was third in the John Of Gaunt Stakes G3 (with stablemate Room Service fourth) and Karl Burke's Leovanni a neck fourth in the Achilles Stakes L. York was Adrian Nicholls' Ingleby Archie land the opener whilst Kevin Ryan's Bergerac was second in the £33,501 Wm Hill More Top Prices Handicap, in which John & Sean Quinn's JM Jungle was third. Kevin Ryan landed the opener at Chester. Earlier in the week the TBA Flat Breeders' Awards nominees were announced with both Branton Court (Special Merit Award) and Copgrove Hall Stud (Small Breeder) up for awards. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 26/05/2025 | A relatively light set of Bank Holiday Monday cards sees John & Sean Quinn's Liberty Coach land the £21,600 Zetland Gold Cup at Redcar, with Ed Bethell's See That Storm In Second. Other winners on the card come from Geoff Oldroyd, Julie Camacho, Tim Easterby, Roger Fell, Seb Spencer and Ruth Carr. Julie Camacho also had a winner at Leicester whilst Ben Haslam and Alex Wilson struck at Cartmel. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 24/05/2025 | A very busy day, summer must be here ... or hereabouts. At Goodwood not only does Karl Burke's Victoria Harbour hang on by a neck to take the Height Of Fashion Stakes L but there is another Aykroyd/ Copgrove Hall Stud winner, this time in the form of Amiloc, who took the Cocked Hat Stakes L by four lengths. The 'big' Northern meeting today is a Haydock, but it was largely disappointing for the Yorkshire raiders, albeit Kevin Ryan's always reliable Washington Heights was third in the Temple Stakes G2. Beverley sees a double for Tim Easterby, most notably including Argentine Tango in the £25,770 Hilary Needler Trophy in which Karl Burke's Meelaf was a neck second, and winners for Richard Fahey, Richard Fahey and Charlie Johnston, Karl Burke was also runner up in the Hilary Needler 'brother' race the £25,770 Two Year Old Trophy, with Naval Light. Over at the Curragh Karl Burke's Lethal Levi is a short head second in the Greenlands Stakes G2. Meanwhile Catterick yields winners for Roger Fell, Ruth Carr and Karl Burke and Ben Haslam and Sam England both have winners at Cartmel's, no doubt packed, late afternoon meet. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 23/05/2025 | At Goodwood today Karl Burke's Liberty Lane just held on by a neck to land the Festival Stakes L. The Cecil Frail Stakes L at Haydock saw David O'Meara's Nighteyes finish third, with Ed Bethell's Rogue Sensation in fourth. Later on the card Charlie Johnston's Suite Francaise retained her unbeaten record when a fourth length winner of the fillies' novice race. Evening racing at Ponty yielded winners for Liam Bailey, John & Sean Quinn and Tim Easterby. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 16/05/2025 | The final day of the Dante meeting sees Adrian Paul Keatley's Secret Hideway nicely land the opening Marygate Fillies' Stakes L giving them, no doubt, dreams of Royal Ascot, Karl Burke's Love Olivia is third. Burke's Thunder Run takes the £30,924 Knights Solicitors Handicap, with Richard Fahey's Have Secret third. David O'Meara's money-spinning Epic Poet puts up another good performance when second in the Yorkshire Cup G2. Charlie Johnston has a winner at Newmarket whilst evening racing sees wins for Ed Bethell and Ruth Carr at Hamilton and for Henry Hogarth and Peter Atkinson at Aintree. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 15/05/2025 | Crikey, where to start ? ... chronologically ... Day Two of the Dante Meeting saw John & Sean Quinn's JM Jungle finish a good second in the opening £30,924 Lindum York Handicap. The next was the £38,655 Hambleton Handicap which fell to the David & Lavinia Aykroyd owned (but not bred) and Ed Bethell trained Old Cock, who finished 1/2 a length in front of Kevin Ryan's Sisyphean, with Roger Fell's La Trinidad third. No joy in the third race. There were no Yorkshire trained runners in the meeting namesake £108,996 Dante Stakes G2 but, somewhat incredibly, for the second year in a row the race fell to a Copgrove Hall Stud raised winner, this time in the shape of Pride of Arras, southern trained, but a David & Lavinia Aykroyd 'home'bred (their actual house in Aldborough is currently on the market!) meaning they also had a double on the card. David Aykroyd was once heavily involved with Coolmore, owned Loughtown Stud in Ireland, bred Robellino, owned Lucaya and was joint owner/breeder of Eclipse Award winning Althea. Currently he has four mares boarded at Copgrove. The next was the £39,97 Westow Stakes L, in which Karl Burke's Miss Lamai was a head and neck third, but the winner was another southern trained, northern bred horse in the shape of Tropical Storm, jointly bred by Hellwood Stud ! A day to remember ! Ruth Jefferson and Patrick Neville had a winner each at Perth. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 14/05/2025 | Day One of the Dante meeting at York sees Yorkshire's first domestic turf group winner of the season when Kevin Ryan's Inisherin, seemingly back in form following a wind op, landed the Duke of York Stakes G2 by a neck. Karl Burke's Night Raider was third, a neck in front of stablemate Elite Status. That was three for three for the locals as Karl Burke's new recruit Almosh'her had landed the opening £33,501 Sky Bet Race To The Ebor Jorvik Handicap (and is indeed Ebor bound) from David O'Meara's Stressfree whilst Ruth Carr's Rousing Encore took the £30,924 Churchill Tyres Handicap, with Karl Burke's Korker back in third. That was it in terms of wins for the locals, although Richard Fahey's Utmost Respect was an eye-catching second in the valuable Two Year Old Novice race, evoking memories of a horse with the same name for the same stable nearly twenty years ago, who was a multiple group winner including ..... the Duke of York Stakes ! | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 10/05/2025 | As previewed yesterday, clever placing saw Grant Tuer's Love Talk finally pick up some much deserved black-type when third in the three runner Lingfield Oaks Trial L. At Ascot Mick & David Easterby's Sondad picked up the the closing £11,514 Peroni Nastro 0.0% Blue Ribbon Handicap ... pretty sure 0% Peroni isn't Mick's favourite tipple ! Earlier Charlie Johnston's Arisaig and Julie Camacho's Zapphire were second and third respectively in the £25,770 Peroni Nastro Azzurro 0.0% British EBF Fillies' Handicap, and Johnston's Rock Camelot also had a decent runner-up placing on the card. Charlie Johnston had a winner on Haydock's traditional 'mixed' meeting whilst Brian Ellison, Ed Bethell and Paul Midgely all scored at Nottingham, and Sam England and Robin Tate did likewise at Hexham. Evening racing at Leicester saw another Tim Easterby double and a winner for Richard Fahey. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 09/05/2025 | The final day at Chester, Cup day, sees a Yorkshre 1-2-3-4 in the 'Consolation' £25,480 Chester Plate Handicap with Tim Easterby's Gibside winning from Adrian Keatley's Surrey Belle and the Charlie Johnston duo of Artisan Dancer and Dreams Adozen. Earlier Karl Burke's Liberty Lane, despite the 'good' going, was third in the Huxley Stakes G2, with stablemate Bolster back in fourth. Mark Walford had a winner at Market Rasen whilst evening racing saw Paul Midgley and Grant Tuer (assured of some 'black type' tomorrow!) score at Nottingham and the local winners at Ripon were provided by a Tim Easterby double and a winner for Ruth Carr. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 08/05/2025 | Day two at Chester sees Karl Burke's Al Qareem finish a decent second in the Ormonde Stakes G3 and, some minor placings aside, not a lot else ! Charlie Johnston has a winner on Chelmsford's evening card. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 07/05/2025 | The opening day of Chester's May meeting goes pretty well for the Yorkshire runners. Karl Burke's Ali Shuffle took the £25,770 Lily Agnes Conditions Stakes (often a good Royal Ascot pointer) and Kevin Ryan's Hammer The Hammer the £15,462 Love Federal Capital Handicap. However the eyecatching 'successes' actually came in defeat in the classic trials ; first up Charlie Johnston's Caspi Star was a decent third in the Cheshire Oaks L , having landed a valuable Musselburgh maiden last time out. Even better stable mate Lazy Griff (allowed to start at the ridiculous odds of 25-1) was a strong second in the Chester Vase G3 despite being only 80% fit according to the trainer, Karl Burke's Convergent was two lengths futher back in third. Lazy Griff holds entries in three Derby's. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 04/05/2025 | 2,000 Guineas day at Newmarket, but no Yorkshire runners in any Guineas this weekend, and no winners on the card although David O'Meara's Bopedro was second in the £51,540 Suffolk Heritage Handicap and Kevin Ryan's Washington Heights was fourth (a head out of third) in the Palace House Stakes G3. At Thirsk Karl Burke's former Guineas runner Flight Plan took the £25,770 Thirsk Hunt Cup, with Kevin Ryan's Hi Royal (who finished second in the same Guineas that Flight Plan ran in!) back in second. The seriously in form Tim Easterby landed both legs of the two year old maiden and Bryan Smart and Nigel Tinkler had winners later on the card. Karl Burke's Bright Thunder was third (only a neck and a nose behind the winner) in the Conqueror Fillies' Stakes L at Goodwood. John & Sean Quinn had a winner on Donnie's evening card. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 30/04/2025 | Royal Ascot trials day at non-Royal Ascot sees Kevin Ryan's Ain't Nobody finish third in the Pavilion Stakes G3 (trial for the Commonwealth Cup). Tim Easterby had a brilliant treble at Pontefract whilst allowing Ruth Carr and Sam England to also have winners. Ollie Pears took the first, and Brian Ellison the last on Southwell's evening card. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 29/04/2025 | At Nottingham this afternoon Karl Burke's Karmology was a strong second in the Nottinghamshire Oaks L, with Charlie Johnston's Francophone, the favourite, back in fourth. Ed Bethell took the opener on Wolverhampton's evening card. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 27/04/2025 | Karl Burke's Royal Rhyme made the trip to Longchamp today for his seasonal reappearance and was a decent enough third in the Prix Ganay G1. A relatively valuable card at Southwell saw Kevin Ryan's Hammer The Hammer land the £16,748 Steve Gregory 65th Birthday Handicap and Richard Fahey's Prince of Pillo the £18,900 Free Tips Daily On attheraces.com Handicap whilst Brian Ellison took the opener. Karl Burke and Tim Easterby each had a winner on Wetherby's flat card. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 19/04/2025 | Yorkshire were dominant up at Musselburgh, supplying six of the seven winners. Pride of place goes to Adrian Keatley's Kihavah who just held on by a head and a neck to land the £51,540 Queen's Cup Heritage Handicap, with Karl Burke's Aimeric in second. There were doubles for both Charlie Johnston (inc Caspi Star in the £20,616 maiden) and David & Nicola Barron (inc Persuasion in the £15,462 Silver Arrow Handicap), Declan Carroll also had a winner whilst the £25,770 Scottish Sprint Cup Handicap went to the locals, but John & Sean Quinn's JM Jungle was second, and David & Nicola Barron's Jer Batt third. Peter Niven took the opener on Wolverhampton's evening card. Over jumps there were winners for Andy Crook, Sam England and Micky Hammond at Carlisle . | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 18/04/2025 | Good Friday means Open Days, and also, in the modern era, All-Weather Championships/Vase Day. On the Championship card at Newcastle Kevin Ryan's We Never Stop held on gamely to land the £77,310 All-Weather Sprint Handicap by a neck, with Karl Burke's Marshman (bred by Highbank Stud) back in third. Also on the card David O'Meara's Heathen was a decent third in the £90,195 All-Weather Championships Marathon Handicap, and Kevin Ryan's Apiarist was a neck third in the £77,310 All-Weather Championships Mile Handicap. | 13/04/2025 | A relatively valuable early-season card at Musselburgh today and Richard Fahey's Our Havana landed the closing, and feature, £25,770 Sky Bet For The Fans Handicap whilst there were also decent winners for Kevin Ryan and Ed Bethell. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 09/04/2025 | Karl Burke's ever-dependable six year old Al Qaeem landed the Further Flight Stakes L at Nottingham this afternoon, with Charlie Johnston's Align The Stars not far behind in third, picking up his first bit of black type. | 05/04/2025 | No runners, let alone joy in the Grand National, although at least the winner was owned by a son of Bradford ! Things went better on World Cup Night at Meydan with Ed Bethell's Regional a good third (only a short head off second) in the Al Quoz Sprint G1 and David O'Meara's Epic Poet occupying the same position in the Dubai Gold Cup G2. Joel Parkinson & Sue Smith took the opener at Newcastle and Henry Hogarth landed the feature race on the card. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Slightly closer to home there were winners at Newcastle for Geoff Oldroyd, Kevin Ryan, Nigel Tinkler (Paddy's Day in the feature race on the card) and Julie Camacho whilst Joel Parkinson & Sue Smith and Lucinda ('wife of Brian') Hughes each had a winner at Sedgefield. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
